Lighted Tractor Parade and Good Neighbors

Before you watch, I must acknowledge Suzanne Becker and the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce’s Lighted Tractor Parade Facebook, who shared my video!!

We were so fortunate to attend the 5th Annual Greenwich Chamber of Commerce Holiday Lighted Tractor Parade 2017 in the neighboring town of Greenwich. NY.  It was raining but we had a few blankets and we were lucky the temps were moderate.  The place was packed!! There was no problem seeing, however, as the nice couple in front of us that were smart enough to bring folding chairs let our kids sit in front of them on the curb on the extra blanket we brought.  The kindness of the people in our new community so far has been remarkable.

We have moved 13 times in the past 14 years and no where else have we seen such consideration (even when dealing with strangers), kindness, and generosity.  Case in point: Ray and I were just putting out the chickens the other morning when a huge black pickup truck trundled up the driveway with a nice older couple inside.  The gent rolled down his window and reminded Ray who he was (Ray had gone out looking for someone to hay our fields a few months back, and this “Mr. G” was a gent in the know).  We chatted, and the Missusses were introduced.  After some chat, the reason for their visit was revealed– Mr. G has a log yard, and was looking down into the valley at our outdoor furnace and didn’t think it was burning enough.  “You got enough wood?”  Ray and I looked at each other in slight disbelief.  Lately we had been harvesting wood from Craigslist Free ads.  We have 28 acres, but only 5 is woods, so it wouldn’t be smart to over-harvest there.  So now we can go up to Mr. G’s anytime we’d like and grab a truckload of his many leftover lumber rounds, and he’s just around the corner!  This is just ONE of the many examples of neighborly conduct we’ve experienced since we moved into this area in July.

I hope you are a good neighbor.  If everyone could be, imagine the peace in your community!

Love,

Vicki
